Karen Eaton Jones is the youngest of three daughters born to the late Glyn Jones – 
muralist and portrait painter, and his wife - the brilliant and innovative sculptor 
Marjorie Meggit, gold medallist. Both were Rome Scholars and respected in the art 
world. Not surprisingly therefore, those three daughters have each emerged as 
painters in their own right and have gained remarkable success.


Karen has worked with, and ridden horses since she was a child. She knows their 
physiology and conformation and uses the elusive quality of watercolor combined 
with her outstanding drawing skills to capture their action, grace and power. She 
and her husband (and great friend) Mike have lived on a small Welsh Farm in 
Pembrokeshire since 1976 and the family are closely involved in a variety of 
equestrian activities many of which are reflected in her artwork. 


She has been painting seriously since 1984, her natural talent allowed to burgeon 
without a formal art education. In 1987 Karen submitted 4 paintings to the annual 
show of the Society of Equestrian Artists in the Mall Gallery. Three were hung; one 
of which won the coveted watercolor prize, and was sold. She was elected an 
associate member and in 1989 a full member. Since this time her work has gained 
exposure at a number of private galleries. 


All through her career as a painter Karen continued to attend many equestrian events 
including polo, point-to-point, harness racing, pony club meets etc, to get back to 
the grass roots activities and the atmosphere of horses in competition. She has 
exhibited and competed at the Royal Windsor Horse Show, Lowther Driving Trials, 
National Driving Trials at Sandringham and also took paintings to the Parder Koets 
Horse & Carriage exhibition in Holland.


Sadly Karen has contracted Multiple Sclerosis and is no longer able to paint, but 
maintains a determined and positive attitude to life, has a great enjoyment of 
friends and family and a fiercely independent spirit.
